A local Junior College student has become active in the search for missing person Kimberly Myers, her 20 year old sister who disappeared while hiking in the mountains with her dog.
Nicky Myers, Kimberly’s sister, organized a search group, which Alexandra McKenzie joined recently.
"I met Ms. Myers through church, and after hearing her story, my sister and I became instantly involved and wanted to help out any way possible," McKenzie said.
After joining the committee, McKenzie and her sister became involved in the investigation.
"My sister helped Nicky make a website, and I am organizing posters to be hung around campus," McKenzie said.
McKenzie said in a situation like this, anything that can be done, should.
"Ms. Myers is literally the nicest person in the world, her story touches my heart, and I feel so bad, I just want to help," McKenzie said.
Kimberly graduated from Seaton Valley High School two years ago and was going to pursue a modeling career.
Gordon Lassiter, former police officer and criminal justice professor, said proper protocol must be followed in such situations.
"Reviewing financial records and phone calls are the first steps when searching for a missing person," Lassiter said. "Any lead you have, you follow through."
Lassiter said he believes there is "always hope," and no one hopes for an "unwanted outcome, but most often there is little to go on."
"Basically you pray and hope for the best. This family has my deepest sympathy," Lassiter said. "The hardest thing on a cop and a family is no closure."
